I picked up a pair of shoes to purchase because I liked them and the price was what I thought was reasonable- $16.99. When I arrived at the register the cashier advised that the shoes were scanning for $24.99.

She went on to say that it appeared that someone had placed the $16.99 tag over the original price of $24.99. Additionally, she advised that the shoes were "coded" as being $24.99. I advised her that had nothing to do with me. I am getting the shoes based on the price that is clearly marked.

She called a manager who then says the same thing and then proceeds to demonstrate and say that it "clearly looks like someone covered the price". Again I say that has nothing to do with me and asked if they would be honoring the marked price. She said no.

When I said I would speak to corporate about the matter she shrugged it off and turned her back. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

No you were trying to cheat them. You could not that is not poor customer service. Did your parents not teach you right from wrong?

no one is under any obligation to give you something for less than they want for it. This goes for big stores as well as small.

Just because large stores like to often suck up to the customer and give them everything they want doesn't mean that's what you deserve or should be owed. Your entitlement is showing.

I am the person who wrote the complaint. I didn't switch the tag.

It is not the customer's responsibility to know when tags have been switched. If switching tags "happens all of the time" then it seems to me that TJMAXX welcomes "being ripped off" and can afford it or they would get a better system! Moreover, if the MANAGER had been a bit more professional about the situation it may have gone over a bit better. However, the trend in customer service seems to be unprofessional staff and management in most places.

But, if I were getting paid low wages and working long hours....

Fact is you get what you pay for and TJMAXX obviously pays elephant food. Nonetheless, I am no longer a TJMAXX customer and am prepared remain as such.

That is what you have at your stores now! They are weeding out your good employees, your customer CARING employees and replacing the clerks and managers with total idiots. I've never seen so many *** people in one room!

We do care about the customers. But following store policies makes us idiots?

How are the cashiers supposed to know you didn't switch the tickets yourself? I've worked in retail for nearly 10 years now and see ticket switching happen at the TJ Maxx where I work everyday. Sadly enough, retail associates can't trust their customers anymore.

Ok Cashier.. Have you EVER heard that the customer is always right?

I also work in retail and you surely don't call them liars. The clerks on the floor as they are zoning that area should make sure the prices on the shoes are correct. You don't stand there and make the customer feel like a thief! Why didn't someone go back and find a pair like them and show them that the price had been changed by someone else other than TJMAXX.

Its always helpful if you show them evidence when something like that happens.Remember THEY are YOUR paycheck.Yes ticket switching does happen but you can make it so you know if its been switched or not.

So with that non sale of the pair of shoe s instead of making 17 bucks you and your manager chose not to make any money at all ... Smart move.

And a lot of stores are now realizing "the customer is always right" is a bad way to do business. Some customers aren't worth keeping. And they would rather keep a good employee who is backed up by the company/management which maintains morale and lowers turn-over than keep a customer who only buys things on sale and constantly bickers over price.

You work in retail and you believe the customer is always right? Please. Retail companies also have policies that associates are obligated to follow and I'm sorry if that displeases the customer, but I'm not about to get fired because I didn't follow store policies.

Do you even realize that if any store, not just TJ MAXX, honors the price of every switched ticket, then that store actually loses money every time? I'm not saying the person who made this review switched the ticket herself, but its not the cashier's fault that some customers choose to be *** by switching tickets and finding other ways to rip off the store.

Too many people have learned to take advantage of "the customer's always right." The reality is, no the customer is NOT always right. Most of the time, the customer is wrong. Stores have policies for a reason, and for all you know, there has been so much tag switching, the managers said "No more changing prices for people." They don't have to break policy for you.

It doesn't matter if the switched price has nothing to do with you, switching price tags is illegal and the store is under no obligation to sell an item if the prices have been switched. It's not poor customer service, it's the store rightfully saying you don't get to rip us off because a customer switched a tag.

At that point you may as well walk through the store with a label maker and change whatever price you want. It doesn't work that way.

It all has to do with each employee knowing their product.. If the store was smart which most aren't..

They would hire enough employees to make sure this stuff doesnt happen. Date your price tags if the price is marked from in instore gun. There are ways to get around it. Nowa days these employees think they are doing you the customer a big favor even acknowledging your presence more less doing the right thing or showing why they cannot sell and item at the price that is on it whether it was switched or not.

No we wont sell it and turning your back on the customer is a sure fire way of losing that customer. You never know ..

She might not have been the one that changed the price!

So selling an item at the price that's not in the store system is the right thing? Clearly you've never worked retail before.
